Borneo has always been famous for its wildlife, but mostly for its spectacular mammals and birds. In recent years, however, attention has turned to lesser known animals, among them the snakes. The island certainly has its fair share of serpents, more than 150 species, to be found througthout the coastal seas, mangroves, lowlands and the mountains. This book is a short compilation of the natural history of these fascinating creatures, their relationships to each other and with humans. Identification of species is facilitated by a checklist, key and colour plates of approximately two thirds of the snake species most likely to be seen. The text of the species accounts covers aspects of size, scalation, colour pattern and behaviour. This information is based on research on Bornean snakes by the authors, who between them have a combined experience of more than sixty years. This book provides a foundation for both amateurs and professionals with an interest in the Bornean snake fauna.
