The Hakkas of Sabah; A Survey on their impact on the modernizations of the Borneo Malaysian State

The Hakkas of Sabah are a unique people. When Sabah began its modern history, they arrived in large numbers in response to the call to “open up” the wild territory. They were agriculturalists and coolies then. They toiled to develop the newly adopted country, resulting in expansion of the economy. Collectively as a community, as they modernized themselves alongside the growing economic cake, they were doubtless the definitive contributors to the modernization of Sabah. This book is a major effort to trace the extent of their impression on the modern development of Sabah. It represents a rare but keen study on eight important aspects in which they helped most to shape the modern history of Sabah. The Hakkas have been in Sabah for more than 120 years.
