Tabin Wildlife Reserve is one of the best places in Sabah to discover the rich diversity of the rainforest. The existence of several mineral-rich mud volcanoes, a source of vital nutrients for a range of endangered wildlife, further enhances Tabin’s importance as a haven for nature and wildlife. This fascinating and informative book, written by Wendy Hutton, is complimented by the inspiring photos of Cede Prudente. In revealing the many facets of Tabin’s beauty, this book should stimulate the interest of visitors and enhance their experience of Tabin’s complex environment. The inclusion of information on current conservation efforts in the Reserve will certainly provide a deeper understanding of the need to protect our delicate environment and its wildlife. The chapter on the oil palm plantations gives insights into how Tabin and the surrounding plantations can work together to protect the rainforest while supporting economic development. I congratulate the team who worked to make this book a reality: Wong Seu Lin, who initiated and pursued the plan of making the book; Wendy Hutton, the author, and photographer Cede Prudente. The book would not have been made possible without the support of the Sabah Forestry Department and Malaysian Palm Oil Council. We look forward to continuing to work with them to elevate nature tourism in Tabin to a greater height.
