This book is dedicated to all those who suffered and died in the hands of the Japanese Army, especially Sabahans, during World War II. The value of the local hero’s memory lies not only in his personal achievement, but to an infinitely greater degree, in the inspiration of the examples he leaves behind. The deaths of thousands of Sabahans loyal to the Allied cause will not be forgotten. “SABAH UNDER THE RAISING SUN GOVERNMENT” may awake unhappy memories, but it was the spirit behind it which really mattered, and without that spirit the people would have signed their own death warrants under Japanese Military Rule.
